About Grant Jewelry
Hello, Ken grant here. Thank you for visiting my jewelry web site.
First, let me tell you how much I love working with Mother Nature to fashion one of a kind jewelry using the incredible stones she has created. I search the Internet looking at thousands of wonderful materials selecting just the right ones that I feel will meld with my inspirations into exceptional, exquisite pieces of wearable art.
Having selected the rough stones or slabs cut from stones, I choose the portion of the design within the stone that will make for an exceptional pendant. Then using a diamond saw, I cut the piece, grind and polish it with diamond wheels. There are some stones that produce a soft glow and some a glistening shine, some both.
I enjoy working with Jaspers that have scenic patterns, as well as a large assortment of sparkling crystals and the exotic stones that have what is known as “chatoyance” (a reflective pattern that moves across the stone as the light hits it).
I am an oil painter and sculpture as well as an illustrator of books and greeting cards. Early in life I designed window displays for retail stores and became Display Manager for Nordstrom’s Portland area stores, and some smaller retail stores. I have designed several stores in Oregon and Washington.
My jewelry studio is in my home here in Portland. The place where I work the stones used to be a greenhouse, so I have a close connection with the “out-doors” while I work. I fashion the necklaces in a room overlooking the garden, that doubles as a painting studio.
In my jewelry as in my paintings, I like to create unusual pieces that call upon the imagination. Even though the pieces are very wearable, they are designed to draw attention. The ladies who have purchased my necklaces are always commenting on the compliments they get every time they wear the jewelry.
When the jewelry pieces draw attention, it is about the stones. My inspiration comes directly from the stones. I am fascinated and excited to discover the variety of stones Mother Nature creates. When you think that some of these materials are millions of years old it is just incredible.
I hope my enthusiasm is contagious as you view my jewelry, and you become as excited wearing it as I was in the creation of it.
I am very blessed to have been given this creative gift that I can share with you and my satisfaction is making my customers happy.
Sincerely,
KEN GRANT
